FAQ
How did you decide that you wanted to have the surgery done?
Firstly I want to point out that when I first got braces then my jaw was not as wrongly positioned as it was a few years later. Therefore there was no talk of a possible surgery until I had known my orthodontist for a few years. This is an important factor in my decision since it meant that I knew that I could completely trust her judgment and if she said something was the right thing to do then it probably was. The first time I met my jaw surgeon I had not decided if the operation was something I wanted to do. But I knew that I could trust his skill and statements concerning what would have to be done in my case since my orthodontist agreed with him. I was very aware of my jaw at all times and wanted to fix it if it was possible and not to risk filled. I also knew that if I ever wanted to do it then now was the time. Since I am young my body is in the best condition when it comes to healing and that whole process will be much easier and faster for me as a seventeen year old than for example as a forty year old. As a “child” in school I also had the luxury of the school helping me and trying to be flexible so that I could go through the surgery without missing important exams and such.
So after the meeting with my jaw surgeon I decided that I wanted to go ahead and do it and correct my jaw. :D
Where are you from?
I am from Sweden :)
When do you update?
These first six weeks (until 22 of June 2015) I will update weekly on Mondays and after that I will try to create a schedule for the updates. What this will look like I do not know since it is first then that I will be able to determine how much there is to write about. In addition to this I will update after all my appointments at the doctor’s office both the ones with my jaw surgeon, which will end quite soon, and those with my orthodontist that I will have every 6-8 weeks for 6 months after the surgery.
After about a year I also hope to write an update of how I feel after the whole ordeal and how I look one year after my jaw surgery.
Why did you decide to start this blog?
I wanted to record the experience, without any censoring, for my and possibly someone else’s benefit. Everything I write is the truth, I am not exaggerating or trying to make it sound better than it is. This has forced me to write about things that I would normally gloss over but I feel like it is really important that people have access to the information so they can make an informed decision if they want to go through with this kind of surgery. Or perhaps just want to know how it is to go through a surgery. Curiosity is one of the most important features of humanity. (Wow, I am deep XD)
